Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz has reintroduced three bills aimed at supporting farmers in the Rio Grande Valley. The legislation was initially introduced during the 118th Congress and included in the Farm Bill that passed out of the House Agriculture Committee.
The Texas Agricultural Producers Assistance Act seeks to address economic losses faced by Texas agricultural producers due to Mexico's non-compliance with the 1944 water treaty between the U.S. and Mexico.
The Southern Border Farmers and Ranchers Protection Act authorizes payments under the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP). These payments are intended to help farmers and ranchers repair infrastructure and land damaged by illegal activity along the southern border.
The Cattle Fever Tick Eradication Program Enhancement Act mandates that the USDA contract with a land-grant college or a non-land grant college of agriculture to evaluate the existing program.
“These bills are essential to protecting the future of farming in Texas,” said De La Cruz. “Farmers have been devastated financially by the lack of water payments from Mexico and destruction of their land by illegal immigrants and cartels. Improvements to the Cattle Fever Tick Eradication Program protects cattle farmers from further losses. As long as I represent Texas in Congress, I will be a voice for Texas ag producers and I will not stop until these bills are law.”
