Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz has reintroduced the Disabled Veterans Housing Support Act, aimed at excluding service-connected disability pay from eligibility criteria for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) assistance. This legislative move seeks to ensure fairness for veterans seeking housing aid and requires a detailed report to Congress on how such compensation is treated in all programs administered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

"Our veterans served our nation and deserve a debt of gratitude that can never truly be repaid," De La Cruz stated. "For veterans to have to fight red tape to receive the housing support they need and deserve is unconscionable. This legislation is a step towards righting this wrong, and I am proud to continue to champion housing access for our veterans."

In the previous 118th Congress, the act received broad bipartisan support and was passed by voice vote in the House of Representatives. De La Cruz hopes that supporting veterans will remain a priority for the 119th Congress, as she anticipates approval in both legislative chambers.

The bill is co-led by Representative Brad Sherman from California's 32nd district.
