Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz has announced the bipartisan passage of H.R. 7480, known as the Disabled Veterans Housing Support Act. This marks her sixth legislative success in the House of Representatives.
The legislation, passed on Wednesday, ensures that disability compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs is not included in income calculations for assistance under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.
“Our veterans have sacrificed so much for our nation, and this legislation removes barriers to housing assistance for those with service-connected disabilities,” De La Cruz stated. “This is about ensuring equity and access for our heroes.”
H.R. 7480 aims to enhance housing accessibility by making it easier for veterans with disabilities to qualify for housing programs. It promotes equity by aligning how veteran benefits are treated across the CDBG program and requires a report to Congress on the treatment of service-connected disability compensation across HUD programs.
“This is a victory for our veterans and reflects our nation’s values,” said Rep. De La Cruz. “I am grateful to my colleagues for their support in advancing this important bill.”
