Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz has successfully secured a $500,000 grant for the Metro McAllen North-South Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Corridor Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Master Plan. The grant, awarded through the Federal Transit Administration's FY23 Pilot Program for Transit-Oriented Development Planning, aims to foster sustainable growth and enhance connectivity within the McAllen community.

The grant, awarded to the City of McAllen, will support the planning of TOD initiatives around two key transit stations connected by four local bus routes, including a proposed BRT corridor. The primary focus of the project will be to enhance housing opportunities and improve walkability around the Central Station in downtown McAllen, the city's primary transit hub. Moreover, the plan will investigate mixed-use development possibilities and create multimodal connections to the newly constructed North Transfer Station.

"I am thrilled to announce this significant investment in the future of McAllen's transit infrastructure," expressed Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz. "This grant will not only enhance accessibility and mobility within our community but also pave the way for sustainable economic development and vibrant neighborhoods."
