A property that will most likely be called the West Seguin Marketplace is under construction and is hopeful to be ready by 2021.
According to the Seguin Economic Development Corp., the 24-acre property has several companies committed to the property, including a Divita, a Burger King and a Chicken Express.
“One thing related to COVID-19 and retail is that a lot of these retailers have put what they are referring to as a COVID hold on their development," Josh Schneuker, the executive director for the Seguin Economic Development Corp., said.
Schneuker said the marketplace will be good because it received the news in April that a planned Walmart would no longer be built in the city.
Schneuker said the bulk of the city's future projects would be private while companies work on negotiations. He said the coronavirus pandemic has stalled some development, but that development was still on the radar.
