Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz has introduced bipartisan legislation to rename a post office in McAllen, Texas, after Agent Raul H. Gonzalez Jr. Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz have presented companion legislation in the Senate.

The proposal is supported by several representatives including Brian Babin, Roger Williams, John Carter, Michael McCaul, Keith Self, Ronny Jackson, August Pfluger, Dan Crenshaw, Beth Van Duyne, Nathaniel Moran, Randy Weber, Tony Gonzales, Jodey Arrington, Troy Nehls, Pat Fallon, Pete Sessions, Brandon Gill, Michael Cloud from the Republican Party and Henry Cuellar and Vicente Gonzalez from the Democratic Party.

"Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol Agent Raul Gonzalez gave his life to protect our community and is remembered as an American hero. It is a privilege to introduce legislation to designate a Post Office in McAllen, Texas in his honor. U.S. Border Patrol Agents go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure our border and our communities are safe and we are forever grateful for their sacrifice and service,” said Congresswoman De La Cruz.

Senator John Cornyn added: “Agent Gonzalez selflessly made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country and his commitment to ensuring public safety for more than a decade should be remembered for generations to come. Our hearts are with Agent Gonzalez’s family and friends as they continue to mourn and I urge my colleagues in the House and Senate to join me in honoring his legacy of service to our nation by sending this legislation to the President’s desk.”

“I’m proud to support the renaming of the McAllen United States Postal Service to the Agent Raul H. Gonzalez Jr. Memorial Post Office," stated Senator Ted Cruz. "The renamed post office will serve as a reminder for years to come of the ultimate sacrifice made by Agent Gonzalez and of others like him in the line of duty. This postal office will not only honor Agent Gonzalez but will also serve as a reminder of the importance of upholding our responsibility to securing our border to protect the lives of our Customs and Border Patrol agents.”

Agent Raul H. Gonzalez Jr., who served with dedication until his tragic death due to injuries sustained during an ATV crash on December 7th, 2022 while on duty, will be honored through this initiative which aims at designating the post office located at 620 East Pecan Boulevard in McAllen under his name.
