South Texas Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz (TX-15) has cast her vote to impeach Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas for what she perceives as his failure to fulfill his duty of securing the border. As a staunch advocate for border security, Congresswoman De La Cruz believes that Mayorkas' actions have not only empowered dangerous drug cartels but also perpetuated the abhorrent trafficking of women and children.

In a statement, Congresswoman De La Cruz expressed her concerns, stating, "Secretary Mayorkas’ blatant disregard for the security of our southern border not only empowers the world’s deadliest drug cartels but also perpetuates the abhorrent trafficking of women and children. His negligence poses a dire threat to the safety of Texans and countless Americans."

The Congresswoman has been vocal in her demands for Secretary Mayorkas to honor his oath and strictly enforce border policies. She believes that the Biden administration's dismantling of proven security protocols has led to an unprecedented surge in illegal border entries. Congresswoman De La Cruz emphasized that her vote to impeach Secretary Mayorkas sends a clear message to federal officials who neglect to enforce America's laws: there will be consequences.

Congresswoman De La Cruz has a strong record on border security. She has introduced several bills aimed at addressing the issue, including H.R. 5694: Pay Our Border Patrol and Customs Agents Act, H.R. 1076: Preventing the Financing of Illegal Synthetic Drugs Act, H.R. 6921: Southern Border Farmers and Ranchers Protection Act, and H.R. 1542: Mayorkas Must Fly Coach Until We Secure the Border Act. Additionally, she supported the passage of H.R. 2: Secure the Border Act of 2023.

The Congresswoman has also co-sponsored several bills related to border security, including H.Res. 8: Impeaching Alejandro Mayorkas, H.R. 7083: To prohibit the Federal Government from removing or altering a barrier, fence, barbed wire, or obstacle constructed by a State along the United States border for the purpose of preventing unlawful crossings, and for other purposes, and H.R. 597: Stop the Cartels Act.

As a representative of a district along the U.S.-Mexico border, Congresswoman De La Cruz is committed to addressing the challenges and ensuring the safety and security of her constituents. With her vote to impeach Secretary Mayorkas, she hopes to hold federal officials accountable for their actions and send a strong message about the importance of enforcing the nation's laws.
