Port San Antonio has made the list of six possible locations for the future headquarters of the U.S. Space Command.
The list was derived from a selection of self-nominated locations across 24 states, according to the Secretary of the Air Force Public Affairs Office. The Department of the Air Force is expected to select a “preferred location” for the headquarters early next year.
The other locations are Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico; Offutt AFB, Nebraska; Patrick AFB, Florida; Peterson AFB, Colorado; and Redstone Army Airfield, Alabama.
The next steps in the selection process include further evaluations of each location by the Department of the Air Force, which may include both virtual and on-site visits, according to the release. Areas that are expected to be evaluated as part of the final selection include factors related to mission, infrastructure capacity, community support, and costs to the Department of Defense.
