City of New Braunfels issued the following announcement on Dec. 18.
The New Braunfels Public Library has a gift for the community this holiday season!
Starting Tuesday, Dec. 22nd, library cardholders will have access to “hoopla,” a digital platform that offers instant streaming access to hundreds of thousands of movies, TV shows, eBooks, comics, music and audiobooks.
hoopla is available on desktop computers, as a mobile app, and even through smart TV services, including Chromecast, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, and Android TV. Titles stream instantly, and if you use the mobile app, you can also download titles to your device for offline playback later when Wi-Fi may not be available.
“With hoopla, we can provide a digital collection of movies and TV shows for library patrons,” said Digital Services Librarian Miranda Robbins. “And there’s no waiting for any of the items in their collection. Materials are available to everyone simultaneously.”
NBPL patrons will be able to check out five items per month, with lending periods dependent on the format of the item. Movies and TV show have a 3-day loan period; music albums have a 7-day loan period; and audiobooks, eBooks, and comics have a 21-day loan period.
Current NBPL cardholders can access hoopla by following these steps:
1. Download the hoopla app or visit their website.
2. Create a new account with your email address
3. Select New Braunfels Public Library
4. Enter your library card number and PIN
If you are interested in hoopla but do not have a library card, sign up for a card online by visiting https://newbraunfels.biblionix.com/ and clicking “Sign Up” in the top right corner. Anyone can sign up for a free internet card, which gives you access to all the library’s electronic resources like Libby/OverDrive, SimplyE, cloudLibrary, CreativeBug and more.
To receive a free library card with checkout privileges, you must live in the New Braunfels city limits (or ETJ) or have a New Braunfels mailing address. Visit the library website or call 830-221-4300 for more information.
