Seguin is using $5 million in local and federal funds to expand the Walnut Spring Hike/Bike Trail that it recently broke ground on.
According to the Seguin Texas Economic Development Corp., the project includes retaining walls, an elevated trail section, and hand and guard rails.
“For many decades, this place laid dormant," Mayor Don Keil said. "The floods came and washed away ... so many of the beautiful features. You can see remnants of them now over here across the creek and all the way up and down the creek as we speak but it’s time that this great wonderful asset was brought back to its former glory and this is going to be one of the must do things when people come to Seguin."
City Manager Steve Parker said the project was an important one for the area.
