City of Garden Ridge issued the following announcement on Sept. 28.
National Night Out will take on a new look this year. It’s going virtual for approximately a week beginning Oct. 2nd with posts containing tips and information. Until we are able to safely gather in person again, we hope you will join us on the web!
Unfortunately, with current conditions as they are, there will not be a National Night Out community event physically held by the Police Department and the City this year. Instead of having the normal event at the Community and Event Center, the Police Department will be posting some tips and information relating to topics associated with National Night Out (NNO) for approximately a week beginning Friday, October 2nd through the end of the following week on both the City and Police Department social media pages.
The concept of NNO was designed for neighborhoods to get outside and meet their neighbors. To have small community events and block parties to help bolster relationships between neighbors in order to get to know each other better. Block parties are not permitted under current conditions; however, there are some things you can still do in the meantime. Make it a point to get over and meet a neighbor or two that you haven’t had the opportunity to get to know. Have some conversations over a soda or glass of tea and you might be surprised to find you probably have some things in common. Try to learn what vehicles are normally there and what looks right for everyone’s lifestyle. That will allow you to be more observant and accustomed to what looks normal or out of the ordinary in your area. It also allows you to develop a relationship with others in order to feel confident that someone knows when something should be reported to the Police Department while you’re out of town or at work.
We realize there is no substitute for a good old fashioned get together but we must try to adapt in these ever-changing times. Instead of coming to see us on October 6th, grab a refreshing beverage and go meet a neighbor to make some new friends. We have all had to adjust and this is another small adjustment to our daily routine. We hope it is one that proves to be a benefit for all in our community.
Enjoy, Stay Safe, and Remember the Police Department is still here- 24 hours a days/365 days a year to provide assistance, should you need it. Our dispatch number is 830-609-3921. We will miss not having our normal gathering and look forward to meeting up with everyone when we can safely get back together.
