Each year the City of New Braunfels budget allocates funds for street maintenance projects to be completed throughout the next fiscal year. As budget discussions begin for the 2020/2021 budget cycle, the City’s Public Works Department is seeking input from the public on which of the city’s 363 miles of city roads need to be addressed in the coming year.
Last year, New Braunfels City Council allocated approximately $1.7 million in order to fund 50 different roadway maintenance projects, ranging in scale from preventative maintenance to complete roadway rehabilitation projects. Here is a list of the projects that were included in the 2019/2020 Street Maintenance Program. Over the last 5 years, the City has taken on over $8 million in street maintenance projects along with over $100 million in roadway and drainage repairs from the 2013 and 2019 bonds. And each project is selected based on need and input from New Braunfels residents.
As part of the public input process, an online public forum is scheduled for Wednesday, July 22 at 6pm. The online forum will be held via Zoom video conference. During that public forum, residents will hear from the Public Works Department about which roads are eligible for street maintenance projects, the types of improvements that can be made, and which projects are on their proposed street maintenance plan for 2020/2021. At the end of that forum, residents will also be given information on how to submit their input for city street improvements. Visit www.nbtexas.org/streetsurvey to join the public input forum via Zoom. That webpage also contains links where residents can provide their input for city street improvements.
