City of Cibolo issued the following announcement on May 11.
The City of Cibolo Public Works team is aware of the recent taste and odor concerns with our drinking water and we have been working with Canyon Regional Water Authority (CRWA), our water provider, over the past 5 days to alleviate the issue. The City of Cibolo receives all of its drinking water from CRWA, located in New Braunfels, Texas. CRWA has two sources for the water they provide to Cibolo (as well as Marion, Santa Clara, GVSUD, NBU, SAWS and others). The first source is the Guadalupe River (at Lake Dunlap) and the second is the Carrizo Wilcox Aquifer (at Wells Ranch). After they treat the water from these two sources, it is blended and then delivered to our City. During the hotter months of the year, algae blooms occur (a natural event) in the Guadalupe River. When these occur, we can experience a taste and odor issue (woodsy, earthy taste and smell) with the water. This does not affect the water quality and the water remains fully compliant with TCEQ requirements and is safe to drink. CRWA is adjusting their treatment parameters and blending ratios in an effort to eliminate the taste and odor concerns. We expect that this issue will be resolved by the weekend. As a reminder, the City of Cibolo completes system wide testing of our water 7 days a week to ensure the water meets or exceeds TCEQ regulations.
