City of Fair Oaks Ranch issued the following announcement on May 11.
The K3 raw water well has had a sample test positive for E-Coli. The water well has been taken off-line and will be disinfected. The water well must pass all sample tests in order to be put back in service.
Raw water, which includes groundwater, rainwater, and water from wells such as the K3 well are always tested as a precautionary measure by our team prior to the raw water ever entering the distribution system.
There is no danger or threat to the community due to the positive testing. At no time did E. Coli ever enter our water distribution system. There are no concerns for the health and well-being of our community. The water is safe to drink and there is no need to boil or treat your drinking water.
It is important to note that our water distribution system is monitored by staff 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year and their diligence is what has prevented E. Coli from ever entering the distribution system. The health and safety of the community is always our priority.
We have mobilized assets to resolve the problem and will ensure that the well remains off-line until all traces of E. Coli has been removed from the K3 raw water well. Further, the City has notified the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to ensure we are compliant with mandated protocols.
