Due to social-distancing protocols and stay-at-home orders, many are left wondering if less traffic could mean road projects could be completed quicker, KXXV reports.
Jake Smith with the Texas Department of Transportation told the news agency that despite there being less traffic, there are still normal issues that remain, like distracted driving and speeding.
"Unfortunately, we are still seeing that folks are speeding and engaging in distracted driving, and it poses a danger to our construction personnel and to the travelers on the road," Smith told the news agency.
Smith told the news agency that the department is looking at expediting projects on a case-by-case basis and if someone says they see an opportunity to fast-track a project, they will consider it.
"Our mission is to connect you to Texas, and what that means is continuing the critically important road work that connects us from where we are to grocery stores and to our healthcare providers, and so we are proceeding as planned," Smith told the news agency.
