Recent U.S. Census Bureau data indicates that close to half of Central Texas residents have filled out the census as of April 6.
Completing the Census ensures appropriate allocation of federal services and funding for schools, hospitals and fire departments, and determines the number of seats a state has in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The Census Bureau says Texas loses approximately $15,000 for every person not counted in the census, Community Impact Newspaper reported.
Among five Central Texas counties, Comal had the highest participation percentage at 47.1 percent, while Bastrop has the lowest at close to 37 percent, the bureau reported. Texas as a whole had a 41.1 percent response rate, according to the data.
Because of the coronavirus outbreak, non-response contacts performed by federally employed census takers have been pushed back to late May.
