City of New Braunfels issued the following announcement on March 6
The City of New Braunfels will host its next Bulky Goods Drop-Off (BGD) on Saturday, March 21 from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The last vehicle in line at 11 o’clock will be the last one assisted.
All locations require residents to bring a current NBU/GVEC bill and valid state-issued photo ID to participate. Due to downtown traffic conflicts with the 175th celebration parade scheduled for this date, the City Municipal Building at 424 South Castell Avenue will not be a location for this Bulky Goods Drop-off.
The City-operated BGD sites are:
- Comal County Goodwin Annex - 1297 Church Hill Drive
- City Hall – 550 Landa Street
- Walnut Springs Elementary - 1900 South Walnut Avenue
BGD is held quarterly and is a large item drop-off for residential households. At City sites, participants can bring a maximum of five household, oversized trash items, and up to four whole passenger car tires without rims. Each household is allowed one load per event. Items accepted at City-operated sites include non-metal items that are larger in weight or dimension than allowable in a curbside trash cart. Examples of items that often meet those criteria include: furniture items (such as mattresses, chairs, couches, bed frames, bookcases, and tables), kiddie pools, storage bins, and high-volume ice chests.
Metal items and materials generated from construction, demolition, and remodeling debris are not accepted at City-operated BGD sites. Prohibited items include appliances, Green Waste (leaves, branches, twigs, etc.), bagged or commercial garbage, lumber, tile, carpeting, drywall, flooring, pallets, electronics, and hazardous waste. Blown-out, partial, motorcycle, ATV, and lawn mower tires are also prohibited.
An additional site that residents can utilize is Mesquite Creek Landfill at 1700 Kohlenberg Lane. At the landfill, which is operated by Waste Management:
- All vehicle occupants must wear a safety vest.
- No tires or appliances are accepted.
- All trailers must go to the landfill and they must be covered with a tarp.
Call (830) 625-7894 for additional information about this site.
The City Recycle Center accepts scrap metal items such as a water heater, chain-link fencing, a BBQ grill, metal bed frames, and metal appliances without Freon (like a clothes washer or a clothes dryer). The Center is open Tuesday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. and closed on Sundays, Mondays, and City holidays. Further information on the City Recycle Center can be found at www.nbtexas.org/recyclecenter.
For items that are not accepted at BGD, or residents are unable to transport to a site, the City offers curbside bulk pick-up appointments, and temporary dumpster rentals to residential customers. For fees and details on these services, contact the City of New Braunfels Solid Waste and Recycling Division at (830) 221-4040.
