City of New Braunfels issued the following announcement on Feb. 5.
The Fischer Park Nature Education Center has been named a Texas Aquatic Science (TAS) Certified Field Site by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. “This certification adds a credential for our field trip offerings that benefits teachers who will be able to count on a Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) aligned educational materials both in and out of the classroom,” Recreation Supervisor Sonja Mlenar said.
Texas Aquatic Science is a comprehensive TEKS-aligned aquatic science curriculum that examines waterways across Texas, from headwaters to the ocean. Coordinating activities offered at Fischer Park are available for Kindergarten through 12th grade students including fishing and macroinvertebrate identification in water samples from the Fischer Park ponds. “A hands-on field trip at Fischer Park is not only educational, it’s also fun and has a lasting effect on students,” Mlenar said. Fischer Park offers field trips for schools, homeschoolers, scouts, and any group of 10 or more individuals.
