City of Fair Oaks Ranch issued the following announcement on Jan. 23.
At their January 16 City Council meeting, City Council received a report on the 2019 Deer Survey managed and performed by members of the Wildlife Education Committee and Texas Parks and Wildlife.
As part of the charge by the Fair Oaks Ranch City Council at the time of the Wildlife Education Committee’s formation to track the impact deer have on our community, members of the Wildlife Education Committee and volunteers performed a deer census during the months of September and October 2019. On three weekend days, survey teams drove four defined routes totaling 26 miles to view and count various deer in Fair Oaks Ranch.
The survey was conducted in close coordination with Texas Parks and Wildlife, who helped design the survey routes and provide the data analysis at no cost to the City. To provide reliable tracking of deer population trends, a carefully designed and validated "Spotlight" methodology was used that will be repeated, potentially on an annual basis.
