Donna Campbell, a Texas State Senator, shared updates on legislative activities and community support initiatives through her Twitter account in late July 2025.
On July 21, 2025, Campbell announced the commencement of a special legislative session. She stated, “The First Called Special Session of the 89th Texas Legislature has officially begun. We are back in Austin to address key issues outlined in the Governor’s proclamation, including improving disaster preparedness and flood recovery efforts, reforming the STAAR exam, providing”. This session aims to tackle urgent matters such as disaster response and educational reforms.
Later that day, Campbell addressed assistance for veterans impacted by recent flooding. She wrote on July 21, “If you or a veteran you know has been affected by recent flooding, help is available through these TVC-funded organizations: Housing Assistance: Operation Finally Home – Mortgage-free homes, apply online American GI Forum National Veterans Outreach Program – Housing services,”. The tweet highlights resources available for veterans seeking housing support after severe weather events.
On July 22, Campbell recognized local veterans’ contributions. She posted, “I had the privilege of presenting a Texas Senate Resolution to the Doug Herrle Chapter 61 of the Disabled American Veterans of Seguin. The resolution honored the life and legacy of Brigadier General James Henry Doty Jr., a decorated veteran and former chapter commander who served”. The message reflects ongoing efforts to honor military service within Texas communities.
The special session referenced by Campbell follows standard practice in Texas when urgent state issues arise outside regular legislative periods. Disaster preparedness and flood recovery have become recurring topics for lawmakers due to frequent extreme weather events affecting Texas residents and infrastructure. Programs like Operation Finally Home and the American GI Forum National Veterans Outreach Program are part of broader state-supported initiatives to provide direct aid to veterans facing housing insecurity after disasters.
